Whole Wheat Biscuits

I hope everyone is doing well and had a nice Halloween if you did anything to celebrate.  I had to teach but Ollie and Steve were home to pass out candy. I'm still in my detox so I'm not having any candy. In fact it's been one week since I had sugar of any kind! I will write more about my detox as it gets to the end. I feel like it would been an uneven explanation if I didn't have the whole experience before I share it with you all. This is a little treat a made last week!

Sweet Potato Biscuits

This is another delicious recipe from my favorite ayurvedic cookbook!  I love sweet potatoes so I knew when I saw this recipe that I had to try it.   I really like using my hands when I'm cooking because it makes me feel like I have a better connection to the food I'm making and it worth the extra effort.  The recipe called for mixing the dough with your hands so I did just that. If you don't like getting your hands dirty you are more than welcome to use a utensil but I strongly suggest using your hands.  It's nice feeling like a messy kid again!

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

It's almost fall! Well, at least in the northern states, but in Texas that means that the temperature has dropped to the high 80s which is a nice relief.  Last weekend we spent most of the time at home hanging out with Ollie getting to know him better.  He's such a sweet dog and we are all madly in love.   We hadn't made anything for desert in a while so we decided to make some pumpkin bread.  And in Steve's mind a sweet bread isn't a real sweet bread without chocolate chips.

Whole Wheat Bread

This morning we decided to make homemade bread. Steve has been making his own bread for a few weeks now.  When I was still in Albuquerque I got a bread machine from my parents for Christmas.  Christi and I had tried to make bread in the bread machine, but we couldn't figure out the right measurements because of the high altitude.  I'm really excited to make bread in the machine without worrying about high altitude and having the loaf turn out like a "brick" as some people called it. Here are two examples of bread we made at high altitude in Albuquerque.  The one on the left was a mess and didn't rise at all. We still baked it but it came out looking somewhat like a brain.  The one on the right was a little better. It did rise but was too dry to really make it worth it.  Also the bottom crust was very hard.  Hopefully bread made in Texas will be better!
