Sore Throat Remedy

This morning I woke up with a sore throat, it was so bad I could barely drink water. I'm not sure if it from allergies or the start of a cold. I found a few Ayurvedic remedies instead of turning to throat lozenges which tend to have a lot of sugar in them.

The first remedy I used right after waking up was to gargle with a mixture of salt and turmeric water. Mix 1 cup of hot water with 1/2 teaspoon turmeric and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Make sure its not so hot that it will burn your throat. After gargling I was able to eat some breakfast. You can gargle in the morning and in the evening after dinner.

The second remedy that I am using is warm milk with turmeric. Turmeric is a natural inflammatory so drinking this milk will help reduce the swelling related to the sore throat. To make this milk boil a cup of milk and stir in 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric.

I am also avoiding as many dairy products as possible, with the exception of the turmeric milk. Dairy, especially chilled dairy products, are mucus-forming and will make a sore throat worse.

I've found one of the most important part of curing a sore throat is to listen to my body because it is probably telling me to slow down a bit and pay attention to what I am eating.

Question of the Day: What do you use to cure a sore throat?
