All About Avocados

I love avocados!!! Until recently I didn't realize they were a fruit! In my mind avocados are in their own food group because it's hard for me to think of them as a fruit but I also know they aren't a vegetable. Whatever they are classified as I still love them unconditionally.
One of the main things I love so much about avocados is that they can be both savory and sweet. The creaminess makes it a great alternative to dairy products. But the creaminess isn't for everyone; two of the most important men in my life don't like avocados because of the texture.

The flavor of the avocado is so subtle that it goes well with most flavor combinations. I've mixed avocados with lemon, tomatoes, chocolate, maple syrup, and so many other things (not at the same time.)

To me the most important part of eating an avocado is to make sure it's ripe. The easiest way to do this is to feel if it is slightly soft, but not too soft. And you can also take off the little stem. If the inside you can see is green there won't be any brown spots inside. Here is a little more information about avocados! (Even though I've been to Basil I had no idea they put avocados with their ice cream! I'll just have to go back!)

  1. You know, I don't think I've ever tried advocado - not even guacamole . . . I guess it's time!

  2. I hope you get some next time you are at the store! If you buy them when they are a little hard it will only take a day or two until they are ready to eat!
