Homemade Hummus
Makes 2 cups
1 can chickpeas (15 oz), drained and rinsed
3 tablespoons lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
1/4 cup tahini
1/4 cup EVOO
1/4 cup water
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Any other spices you want to add!
Put all of the ingredients into a food processor and process until smooth. If you have time let it sit for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to meld together. It will last up to 2 days in the fridge. Serve and enjoy!
It looks good Emmalyn, but I tried store bought and didn't like it at all. Maybe I'll give it a second chance by trying this recipe. Thanks for the info. What's tahini?
ReplyDeleteCindra,
DeleteTahini is made from sesame seeds. It had a consistency like peanut butter. I've found it near the peanut butter in the grocery store.
For even better flavor, I used dried chick peas that I soaked overnight, and then cooked until they were ready. I added more lemon juice than my recipe called for. The flavors were so fresh. It makes a great packable lunch - smear homemade hummus on a wrap or tortilla, add a little grated cheese, some lettuce or sliced cucumber, roll it up, and its ready to go.
ReplyDeleteI've also made it with dried chickpeas which is great, it just takes longer and more planning in advance. :)
