Side Effects of Soda

I've never been a big fan of soda, I don't like the carbonation. When I was growing up we never had soda in the house but were allowed to get it as a special treat when we went out to restaurants.  As a kid I convinced myself that I liked soda because so many other people couldn't live without it. But when I got older I was finally able to admit to myself that I just didn't like it and there wasn't a reason to convince myself to.

One of the things that amazes me about soda is how much there is in grocery stores. Every once in a while I find myself in the soda aisle and just the smell overwhelms me.

In the past few months I've seen a few things online about the side effects of soda. The didn't surprise me but I just want to make sure everyone knows about them. One of the sodas that scares me the most is Coke. My mom once had to pour in over her car battery to clean it off and I don't want to think about what it does to people insides. I also remember hearing that if you put a tooth into an empty coke bottle it will be gone after a certain number of hours.

Take a look at this is place it in the back of your mind next time you reach for that soda!

This infographic gives additional information about the health side effects of a sip of soda. The issues are related to asthma, tooth enamel, heart disease, reproductive issues, diabetes, and obesity.

If you do like soda just become aware of how much you drink. I know how hard it is to cut something out of your life that you really like but becoming aware of what is healthy and unhealthy is the first step! And all it takes is one step at a time!

  1. I find this post to be very interesting--especially considering how much soda I used to drink. Drinking soda is not good for you considering how much sugar is put into it, but I do have a bit of an issue with the argument that it's not good for you because it can clean your car battery. You can also clean your car battery (along with many other things) with water (which is one of the most powerful solvents), yet that's still good for you. Being able to clean with Coke really isn't a valid reason not to drink it.

Also, I really cannot jump on board with the food dyes effecting impairing brain function, causing hyperactivity, etc. I have known many people who primarily drink soda and have never shown signs of any of what is listed.

Again, I'm not saying soda's good for you because it's not. I've actually cut out soda almost completely except on rare occasions, but some of the arguments in the picture above and from infographic just seem to be lacking in explanation and supportive research.
